True (…Sort of) by Katherine Hannigan

This book is about a girl named Delly Pattison who likes presents that are surprises (she calls them surpresents) and one is about to be given/ something will happen to her. But lately, everything that she wanted to be fun and games turned into a ton of trouble. I can't say too much without giving it all away, and also, this book was really confusing. I think it was meant for younger ages, because it was supposed to be an easy read, and it was a quick one, but really strange and confusing. There weren't any mature topics or language, so no need to worry.
My favorite character was Delly, because she was very adventurous and unique, and compared to the other books I've read with characters her age, none of them were like her at all. So I enjoy how she was really unique, and I really like that part about her.

Cabaret

Opening night. We race back and forth serving our excited and hungry audience, nervous for the show to start. "Places!" Anita tells us. We scramble 'backstage', as the lights dim and the soloists for our first number run onto the stage. I wait for our cue, and then we all end up onstage, looking into the bright lights and the smiling audience. We eventually finish the song, and the lights turn off as me and 5 other people go onto the stage. My heart is pounding, and I'm afraid everyone near me can hear. This is basically my solo, except I'm singing the choruses with the others. I'm super nervous, because I tend to mix up the verses, and I hope today isn't the day I mess it up. The spotlight turns on, facing me, and the band begins to play. I wait for the intro to end, my heart beating faster and faster, louder and louder. I better not mess this up. I begin to sing, looking into the audience, getting more and more comfortable onstage. Once again, the song ends, and the rest of the show continues.
That night went perfect for almost everyone, and at the end we jump up and down with excitement, but knowing tomorrow is another performance.

Rethinking Normal By Katie Rain Hall

This book is memoir about a boy named Luke who feels uncomfortable with his own body (I know, it sounds strange, but it gets weirder) and he feels like a girl trapped in a boy's body. He decides to get surgery, to become a girl, and so now his name is Katie and he is transgender. This book is a memoir like I mentioned before, and Katie was fairly young when she wrote it. She is very smart, and talented, but she goes through some bullying along the way since she is trans. This is a strange book, but I liked it, although it wasn't my favorite. It covers A LOT of mature topics, and has a lot of bad words, so if you don't want to read a lot about stuff like that, I wouldn't read this.
I think my favorite character was Katie, because she went through a tough life and she made it through. Also, she is different, from what I usually read about, meaning she isn't the typical teen. Once again, I enjoyed this book, and its a quick read, but a little strange and for some people, hard to process.

Unfairness

Why is life so unfair sometimes? I have no idea. But what I do know is that there have been many unfair situations in my life that I still remember. Here's one of them:
I walk into the classroom from math, and head into the meeting area. For some reason, there is a trash can near Max's desk but I don't pay too much to that. I plop down on the ground, not too far from the trash bin, but not too close. For some reason, Max hands each of us a piece of paper with random writing on it. We wait for everyone to come into the classroom, and then Max announces "Crumple up the piece of paper that you got into a ball." I smash mine into a wrinkly ball, waiting for the next instructions. He points to the trash can, and says "Ok. Now, you all with have a turn to throw your paper ball into the trash can. If you make it, you get a piece of candy. If you miss, no candy for you." There are a few people who are right next to the trash can, so of course, they will make it, and get a piece of candy. But I have a better chance of winning. When it's my turn to shoot, the ball shoots through the air and looks like it will land in the bin, but of course, I miss. I didn't expect to make it, but the ball bounced off of the rim and it looked like someone just slightly blew on it so it landed on the ground. I felt bad for the people who were super far from the bin, because they didn't have a big chance of making it. So as Max promised, he gave the people who made it a piece of candy, and the people who missed, nothing. It was unfair, because we didn't know that we should sit closer to the trash can, but the people who sat really close to it of course made it. The thing is, it isn't that big of a deal, that I didn't get candy and neither did the other people who missed, but there are things that are a bigger deal than not getting a single piece of candy.

Eight Keys by Suzanne LaFleur

Eight Keys is a book about a girl named Elise, who lives with her Aunt Bessie and her Uncle Hugh. She is best friends with a boy named Franklin, which isn't the same since middle school started. Also, she gets bullied by her locker partner, which is twice the trouble. Then, she discovers a key with her name on it, but what's it from? Read this book and find out!
I really enjoyed this book, especially how the genre is a fictional, mystery, with suspense, and adventures. This is the second time I have read it, but I didn't remember a thing from when I read it in Mark's class. This has no cussing or mature topics, and I recommend this for people who like a short, easy read, full of mystery and adventures.
My favorite character would probably be Elise, because she is very independent and she is described the most.

SOL 4- Black Friday, Thankgiving, the 4 1/2 day Weekend, and more!

Wednesday: I run out the school doors, looking forward to our 4 1/2 day weekend. I see my moms car and wander over to it, knowing that at 12:45 I'll be at Jumpoline with my friends, having a great time. We arrive at Jumpoline, in time to see my friend pulling into the parking lot, so we run over into the building and get our wristbands in order to access all the attractions. While we are jumping and having fun, our moms go over to a store nearby to shop. I remember that I have some money with me, so we go and get some ICEES and snacks. That was one fun day.
Thursday Evening: My parents and I dash around the house, getting ready for our guests. One of my close friends is coming, and her two older annoying brothers (they are 13 and 14). My parent's friends arrive, and so do mine, and we have a great time, and stuff our mouths with delicious, Thanksgiving food. After eating turkey and potatoes, comes the time for pie and other desserts. We bought 3 different pies, 2 apple, and one walnut. I have almost a whole apple pie, which I love.
Black Friday: I wake up at around 10:00, exhausted from Thanksgiving, knowing that we probably won't go Black Friday shopping. Instead, I get together with my friend and we go to Washington Park, and after that stop by only a few stores.
Saturday and Sunday: Normal days.

Dear Bully edited by Carrie Jones and Megan Kelley Hall

Dear Bully is a book about bullies, obviously, but instead of it being about one person, it's a ton of short stories by famous authors like A. S. King, and they write about them being bullies or them being bullied, and I just really like that book. I like how it's non-fiction, and is really detailed and well written, although with some mature topics. It had some language and details which were a little inappropriate, but not too much. There really isn't much to say about it, but since this was a book full of short stories, I didn't really have any favorite characters. I really like the story A. S. King wrote, I don't remember what it's called, but I really liked the writing in it. I was really interested in this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is ready to understand what bullying really is.

SOL- Thanksgiving Break 2013

The sun burns down on my back and I breathe in the humid summer air of Mexico. I take my Strawberry Daiquiri and plop down onto the underwater barstool. My cousin Simon (who is my age) plops down next to me and we sip our drinks. My 15 year old cousin Sarah, (Simon's sister) swims over to us and orders a drink in the pool bar. We laugh and talk, while enjoying are delicious drinks, in the hot sun. After finishing our drinks, we swim over to the rock wall. I race them, and eventually win and climb up onto the water rock wall thing. I look around to make sure the lifeguard isn't looking, and go onto the ledge and jump into the water with a splash. Simon follows my lead, and makes a HUGE splash. Then I climb back onto the wall and plop down onto the ledge. Since the rock wall has water, its like more of a waterfall thing, I slide gracefully into the water.
We do this a couple of times, without getting caught, and Simon decides to climb high up on the rock wall. All the sudden we hear a blast from the whistle the lifeguard is blowing into, and the lifeguard motions Simon to get off the wall. Sarah and I try to keep in the laughter hill Simon slowly crawls down. I swim away, toward the bar to get some soda with Sarah. Simon calls out "Wait! I'm coming too!" I ignore him, and I keep swimming. Those days in Mexico were amazing, and I can't believe I'm coming there soon.

1984 by George Orwell

1984 By George Orwell

This is my 2nd week of this book because it was my book group book. So the second part has a lot of parts that I can't give away, but the book doesn't have the best ending. Winston, the main character is a rebel, and has feelings and falls in love when he isn't supposed to, and writes a diary when he could get killed if he was caught. I had mixed feelings about the book, it was really confusing, and I really didn't like that, because it went from one thing to another, and I just didn't enjoy that. But parts of the plot were interesting, like when he rebelled against Big Brother, when he could get into huge trouble. There are a few mature topics on violence, and just the description, but overall, not too much. Like I said before in my previous blog post, my favorite character would be Winston, only because he is described the most and you know who he really is.

SOL #2-Winter Break in Ryan's Class

Winter was making its way to Denver, but I couldn't wait. So for Winter Break, my mom, my mom's friend from New Jersey, my friends from New Jersey, and I drove to the mountains. But there was one problem. I couldn't ski. Not that I didn't know how, but I couldn't, because recently, my tenant (I don't know if that's spelled right) got irritated and I had to be in a boot to keep my ankle secure. But I could go tubing. So I took that opportunity and we all drove to Copper Mountain, to go tubing. Here's the thing, my boot wasn't water proof (here's the embarrassing part). So I had to do what? Wear a TRASH BAG over my boot. Trust me. It was embarrassing. I did not want to walk around copper, and go tubing with a trash bag on my foot. But if I didn't put it on, my boot wouldn't be covered and my toes would get wet. So I put it on, but we had an extra trash bag. I made my friend put it on, so I wouldn't be the only one wearing a trash bag. As I helped her put it over one of her snow boots, she kept talking and talking about how she didn't want to do it. But, as soon as we got out of the car, we found a spot to walk where our feet wouldn't be seen. When we got our tickets to go tubing, my friend and I went onto the 'magic carpet' with our double tube while our moms took pictures at the bottom. My face flushed with embarrassment and so did my friend's. But at least I wasn't the only one.

We got to the point where we got to sit in our tube, and the guy asked us "Turn fast, medium, or slow? Or don't turn at all." "Turn. Fast." We said. But we had to wait until the person in front of us got to the bottom, so the guy decided to ask: "What happened to your guy's feet?" Immediately, the guys walkie-talkie said that it was safe to go, so he have us a push and we went off, turning like crazy.

Of course, the hour of tubing went by so fast, because we were having a lot of fun. We went over to our moms, who were smiling. With the cold weather and stuff, how could' you get a hot chocolate? Obviously, we went to Starbucks and got hot chocolate, and I ripped the trash bag off my foot. We had a great time tubing, but when we got to our mountain house, my friend had some revenge planned.

1984(Book Group- Week One)

1984 by George Orwell (Week One)

This book is about a 35 year old man named Winston Smith, who lives in London. At that that time, no one had any freedom. There wasn't a single spot where there wasn't a sign that said "Big Brother is watching you." Big Brother is a person, who has a lot of other people working for him, to watch everyone 24/7. They watch something everyone through a telescreen, which is basically a security camera that you can not turn off. You can't have any feelings, you can't cry, anything, or else you will be sent to jail and tortured there.

I can't really say much because I am not finished with the book, it's only my first week, and it is my book group book. I think this book is pretty good so far, except it is really confusing, and some parts are a little boring. It is kind of a mystery, but more of a realistic fiction sort of thing. It covers some mature topics with torture and stuff like that, but I would recommend it for anyone who is ready for stuff like that. I think this shows how many feelings and thoughts people have to keep on the inside, and how people rebel and face the consequences of that. My favorite character would probably be Winston, because it shows how he rebels and falls in love, when you can't. He also is the main character, and so it talks about his feelings and how he has to live through that life.

The sun is shining, ignoring any clouds it can possibly hide behind. The clouds look like they have something building up inside of them, that makes them look gray and dark, looking like it will rain any second. I enjoy the feeling of the wind and how it gently blows against my face, and how the sun warms up my back. I pick up a giant leaf lying in the grass, thinking, this leaf was on a tree, bright green, beautiful, and now its old, crunchy, and has holes poked through it. I imagine that leaf being picked from a tree, and used as a fan to shield the person holding it from the burning sun. I drop the leaf, feeling a hint of coldness in the air. Looking up, I see the sun, which instantly hides behind the clouds, which it ignored just a minute ago, and the clouds are about to pour all the rain onto us, the outdoors, everything. The sun hides in the heavy, gray clouds, which are now spilling out all the rain, and looking at how peaceful it is, just looking and listening to the beat of the rain tapping against everything it hits. The rain outside not only gives the outside a refreshing feeling, but my mind feels refreshed as well.

After the rain has stopped, everything looks fresh and how it did at the beginning of fall. The leaves on the trees look neon and bright, and the grass looks green and clean (hehe that rhymes). The sun peeks out from the clouds, which are now as white as snow. Fall changes by the minute, and that's what makes it so unique.

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

This is a book about a girl name Josie, who is 17 and she has a tough life. She lives in New Orleans, and works at a bookstore with her friend named Patrick. Patrick has a really hard life because his mother left him and his dad, who has a mental illness and everyone who knows must keep a secret. Back to Josie, she meets a lot of new people and lives in her own apartment, next to a woman named Willie who Josie basically works for.

This book is hard to describe without giving everything away, but it is a really good book in many ways. This is a mysterious type of book, mixed in with friendship, a little bit of romance, and more. The book covers some mature topics about life, and relationships, but not too much. I would say my favorite character is Josie, the main character, because she is very independent and helpful. She is also very smart, and nice, which is what a lot of people look for. She has a tough life, like I said before, but she knows what to do and if she needs help, who to ask. I like how the writing is very descriptive in this book, and you can imagine what is going on. What I would say isn't the best is that some parts are really confusing, because the book switches from one topic to another.

Shooting the Moon by Frances O'Roark Dowell

Shooting the Moon by Frances O'Roark Dowell

This book is about a girl who is an Army kid, meaning some of her family is in the army and they participate in all of that stuff. They live in America, and when Jamie's (the main character) brother TJ joins the army and is sent to Vietnam, Jamie has mixed feelings. There are many ways to feel, sad, excited, scared, worried, happy, and Jamie feels them all. That summer she helps out at the local army rec center where she meets a lot of new people, and spends time with them. Her brother takes a lot of beautiful pictures and sends many letters, and Jaime keeps them and loves them.

I honestly didn't enjoy this book, I mean, some parts were interesting but overall the book sometimes went into too much detail. I didn't really expect this book to be like this, but you can't judge a book by its cover. The book is very short, I feel like if it was longer it would have been more interesting, and the ending is fairly abrupt. It has no mature topics or language at all, and I think this book was an overall easy read.

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

This is a REALLY book about a 15 year old girl named Lina, who gets deported by the Soviets along with the rest of her family, her mom, her dad, and her younger brother Jonas. They are forced to work at a labor camp, and her father is separated from them, and they are forced to work all day and then they have to move to Siberia, and are freezing cold.

This book is fairly violent, about World War II and its a REALLY good book, like I said before. I don't really like books about war and that sort of thing, but I really like this book. It says a lot about history, and has a lot with friendship, trust, and robbery. I recommend it for anyone who would like some violence, not too much, and a sad, touching book.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
This book is about a girl named Lily who's whole life has been formed around her mother's death. She lives with a mother that basically "is a adoption mother" who is African American I believe. I can't say too much without giving the book away, but it has a lot to do with bees. It isn't the best book in my opinion, and it talks about racism and stuff, so I don't really like that book. The description is really cool though, but it is kind of boring.

My Mother the Cheerleader

My Mother the Cheerleader by Robert Sharenow

This book is about a girl named Loise, who lives in a house that is similar to a hostel, and she must take care of people who live there, but her mom also helps out. This book takes place in the 1960's in New Orleans, which is pretty cool.Anyways, Loise's mom and a group of women stand outside a local elementary school called William Frantz in the mornings, and bully the first African American to go to the school who is a six year old named Ruby Bridges.

This is a really good book, very well written, and a quick read. I would say this is a sort of sad, mysterious book, and it has a lot of mature topics, like racism. Also, this book is somewhat strange/boring at first, but after about 20 pages its interesting and you want to read more.

The Summer of Letting Go

The Summer of Letting Go by Gae Polisner

This is a really good book about a girl named Francesca who's brother drowns (I'm not giving it away) and it's Francesca's fault. The guilt inside of her rises and she can't take it anymore. In the meantime, her best friend has drifted apart from her with a boy, and Francesca is on her own. She meets a little boy, Frankie, who she compares to her brother and there might me something going on.

I can't say too much without giving it away, but it is a really good book. I would say that its a fairly quick read, but not that quick. It is a little confusing, but kind of a mystery type book. Another genre is romance/friendship, but not in THAT way. I would recommend it for anyone, and I would say, there are some mature topics.

Endangered By Eliot Schrefer

Endangered by Eliot Schrefer

This is a really good book about a girl named Sophie, who is African. Although she lives in Miami, Florida, Sophie visits her mom in Congo, every summer. Sophie's mom and dad are divorced, and her mom works at a sanctuary for bonobos, (a type of ape.) which is really big. On the way to the sanctuary, Sophie sees a traveler holding a baby bonobo and falls in love with him immediately, and buys him from the traveler. Sophie and the bonobo become good friends, and the bonobo, named Otto, considers Sophie his mom. A few days before Sophie has to go back to Miami at the end of the summer, her mom must leave with a handful of bonobos for a few days to a enclosure. One day, the United Nations evacuation truck arrives and says that Sophie must leave because a war has started in the capital, Kinshasa, and she is not allowed to bring Otto. But she refuses, because Otto needs her, and she runs away, because the peacekeepers are chasing her, saying she needs to go. She runs into the enclosure with Otto,  where the bonobos live. Sophie has to deal with living with the bonobos, and surviving the war.

This is a really good book, about war. The genre, I would say, is survival, mixed in with violence, and the connection between a human and a bonobo. I really enjoyed it, a realistic fiction book. It has a lot of violence and a sort of inappropriate part, but no bad language. Overall, the book is really well written, and I would recommend it for people who like violence, and animals. This is one of my favorite books, and I don't really like this type of genre.

The Fault in our Stars

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

This book is really good but really sad, but amazingly written. It is a romance, and tragic sort of story with a little twist. It has some inappropriate moments and it discusses mature topics, so I would recommend this book for anyone, who likes this genre and is interested about reading about cancer. It is about a girl named Hazel and her journey through surviving with lung cancer. She pretty much sits around at home all day, and her parents stay with her and help her out. When her mom forces to go to support group, Hazel at first refuses but eventually agrees. One day, she comes to support group she finds a attractive boy staring at her for the whole time, and his name is Augustus Waters and he has osteosarcoma which causes him to lose a leg, but is completely fine for now. I can't explain too much about the rest of their story without giving it away, but pretty much Gus and Hazel fall in love and it seems like one of those love stories but has a major twist to it. They also made a movie based on the book, and I saw the movie first, which has a lot of stuff that the movie doesn't have from the book, but that's okay. In all, I would recommend the book, and the movie.

She doesn't remember anything at all, not even her name or age. She turns out to be a sixteen year old, but she is really different from other people. No one claims to remember her, except for one boy who claims to have known her before the crash. This is a really good book, it is a mystery, mixed in with adventure, and some violence. It doesn't really have anything inappropriate, or any language. I would recommend this book to anyone in AS, because like I said it isn't that inappropriate.

Slob by Ellen Potter

This week I read a book called Slob by Ellen Potter. It is about a 12-year-old boy who is overweight and according to the book, he is 57% heavier than a regular 12 year old boy. His name is Owen, and even though he is overweight, he is very smart. He always gets bullied, and on top of that, his P.E teacher HATES him and makes him do all this annoying stuff. This is a pretty funny book, but it is not really my favorite book since in my opinion it got a little boring at some points. I would recommend this book for people who would like a quick read and who like funny books. This is a really short book, around 200 pages.

Her wish keeps growing as she improves her organ skills, but she dreams of preforming at Cargine Hall, where anything can happen. When she gets to the Perform-o-Rama, almost everything changes. This is a really quick read, and it is written in first person. It is about 200 or so pages but the description is really good. She is a very smart girl, and she is always following the rules. She has a wish, but will it come true? This book is written in third person, and sometimes it switches to second person. This is a adventurous book, but not the BEST I've ever read. I recommend it for people who like books that are a quick read, and who like books that are a little bit of a mystery. Out of My Mind by Sharon M Draper

Let me start with this. This is a great book, one of the best I've ever read. It is about a 10 year old girl named Melody, who has a perfect memory. She remembers everything, it's as if she has a camera in her head and it records everything. She is the smartest kid in her entire school, but no one knows. Her mom and Mrs. V (her neighbor) believe that Melody is smart. But they are not completely sure. Melody has a disease that causes her to have no control on her body, and she needs help. She can't walk, write, or even talk. It's as is mountains of words are piling up in Melody's head but she just can't say them. It is a VERY good book. It seems really realistic fiction, and it is in first person. It is a really quick read, I read it in 2 days and it is 295 pages. I recommend it for anyone in AS, because it is a very interesting book and you all should read it.

Every year we have concerts at the Neiman Center. We have a lot of fun and can do any sport or something we want. This year I am in 9 dances, and I will be dancing, doing gymnastics, and more. Dancing and gymnastics are pretty much my life. I especially like to see the costumes I will dance in a few weeks before the big concert and get to dance in them. I get to express myself and show what I do and I really like that.

This is a calender for SASC.
My picture is on the top,
in the middle with my friend.

SOL 30/31- Max and Kam's Class

I have been waiting for this moment for a while, and I am so glad it is finally here. Spring break. It's only for one week, but at least I get to relax. I am going to Arizona in a few days, and I'm ready for the pool and hotels. My dad has a conference for his job there (he is a dentist) and so we get to stay at a really nice resort. It's spring, and there is much warmer weather, but still some snow, wind, and rain. But in Arizona, there hopefully will be no rain, probably not, absolutely no snow, and only the sun and relaxation. I'm almost up to summer break, but there are still about two months left. Time passed so quickly, it's as if it was just the beginning of the school year.

SOL 29/31- Max and Kam's Class

I wait for my hamster to get out of his hiding spot, and stick his little nose out. My dog runs into my room and sniffs my hamster's cage. I pick my hamster up and star petting him, while my dog is on his hind legs trying to smell my hamster. Surprisingly, my dog is very nice to my hamster, and one time my dog even licked him. I laid my hamster onto my bed, and he started running around and sniffing everything. When I tried to pet him, he kept climbing on my arm and walking on me with his little claws tickling me. He is a very sweet hamster, and I'm glad I have him.

SOL 28/31- Max and Kam's Class

When I was in 3rd grade, I really wanted to get another dog. I had one, but it was big and not that friendly to anyone except for me, my brother and my parents. That morning, I begged my dad to go to the pet store 'just to look' at dogs. My dad finally agreed and we hopped into the car. We arrived at the pet store, and started looking at/petting the dogs. A employee walked by holding a tiny puppy that was adorable. "Can I pet it?" I asked her. "Yes but not of the head." She sees my confused look and adds, "A different dog did his business on this little guy's head." I look over at the other dogs but I have my mind on the one who the lady carried away to wash. I argue with my dad about getting him and he finally admits he really liked that dog too. It is time to leave, so we get back into the car and I call my mom.

She checks him out and immediately falls in love with him. Later that day we all come and buy him, and agree on the name Benny.

SOL 27/31-Max and Kam's Class

After a while of waiting, we finally got our trip packets. Our overnight is soon, horay! I am super excited to go to the beach, and exploring Boston and Maine. I really hope that the weather will be really nice because we will be hiking a lot. I'm also excited for the plane ride, I don't know why. but I just do. I am glad we hopefully will be able to go swimming somewhere, and I am really excited for that, if of course we go swimming.

SOL 26/31- Max and Kam's Class

When I was about eight years old, I went to Florida with my parents. We stayed at the Hilton hotel, which was really nice and not far from Disney World. One day my dad went for a swim early in the morning while I was asleep. When I woke up I glanced out the window and saw the sun shining, and the ocean a dark blue. My mom was in the shower, so I just turned on the TV. My stomach growled, and I couldn't wait for my dad to come back so we could all eat breakfast at a restaurant. I got dressed, so we could go right away. Suddenly, the door clicked open and my dad came in holding a sea shell, his hair all wet. The shell was big, about the size of an adult's fist. I picked it up, and it was a little heavy. I see two big blue eyes peek out of the shell, followed by a large hairy body. I shriek, and hand it back to my dad. 'It's just a little crab, see? He can't even get out of the shell.' I look over at the shell and see the crab slip back into the shell. Crawl Crawl Slip Slide. The pattern continues for a couple minutes.

A little later after we eat breakfast my parents and I go over to a beach with the crab. We go over to a platform, followed by a port. The crab keeps trying to get out, so we go near the ocean water and let the crab go. I was a little scared of the crab, but later that night, I fell asleep thinking of good names for him.

Book Blog (SOL) 25/31- Max and Kam's Class

The Last Present by Wendy Mass

This book is a series, but it is about a girl named Amanda and her best friend named Leo. They communicate with each other by using blackboards or texting but they are very close. Lets just say, it has to do with the oldest person in Willow Falls who is very mysterious, Angelina. Amanda and Leo must figure out why their friend, Grace, has fallen into a frozen state on her birthday, and they must figure out why by time traveling to Grace's previous birthdays. This is a mysterious, adventure book, and I recommend this book to anyone, but the other books like 13 Gifts, and 11 Birthdays are the other books that are in the series you should read before this one. It is a very quick read, and only 256 pages.

SOL 24/31- Max and Kam's Class

The sun is beaming at me, and I am sitting in my friend's car with all the windows open and the music turned up all the way. I am with two of my friends, Lelete and Sebastian. We are singing along to the music, and it is super fun. In case you were wondering, I am at a 3 year old's birthday party, and I got bored so I just went outside with my friends. I turn down the music, and we start trying to figure out how to turn on the mist to wash the windshield. I stick my head out of the top window thing, and Sebastian turns on the water and I get soaked. I scream and grab Sebastian's basketball and start dribbling it down the parking lot. I pass it to Lelete, and she passes it back. Sebastian steals it, and I run back to the car with Lelete and lock the doors. I make a face at Sebastian, and he frowns. I unlock the doors and turn the music back on. We continue rocking out and I am having so much fun!

SOL 23/31- Max and Kam's Class

I walk into the huge mall, and walk straight into Nordstrum (I don't know how to spell it) with my mom. We walk over to the shoe area, and start searching for Vans. We look around but can't find any. "Maybe we should go to the Vans store or Journeys." I say. We go on over to Journeys, but the Vans there aren't the prettiest. We spot the Vans store near in, and head over to it. We see a huge wall full of Vans, and I run over to it and start searching for the perfect ones. I probably try on 20, because there are a bunch of boxes next to me that say Vans. I finally settle on two that are amazing, and have a quick argument with my mom about getting both. We head over to the cash register, and the other customers next to me are really creepy. They have a bunch of piercings, and smell like Marihuana. I wander over to the exit, and wait for my mom there cause I can't stand the creepiness. It was scary, but I at least got Vans.

SOL 22/31- Max and Kam's Class

I wake up to the sound of birds chirping, and look at my alarm clock. 9:45 AM, it reads. I gasp and start worrying my alarm clock didn't go off. Maybe I didn't hear it? But then wouldn't my mom would wake me up? It is Thursday, and by now we would be at matrix. I hurry to get dressed, throw on a shirt and jeans, and put my contacts in. I rush downstairs, and see my mom sitting on her iPad sipping coffee. Then it hits me, it's Parent teacher conferences! I grab a bowl and cereal, along with milk and think to myself,

"Wow. I can't believe I forgot. I hope I don't forget again tomorrow!"

SOL 21/31- Max and Kam's Class

I get ahold of my scooter and set a foot on it. I push myself and glide on to the road. I take a second to glance up, and look at the beautiful sunshine, which practically blinds me cause it's so bright. I take my sweatshirt off, which I wore in case it got windy or anything. I hear tomorrow it's going to snow. Haha. That probably means nothing. I mean, I can't say the weather people are always wrong, but sometimes. When I get to the park, I walk around a little bit, and say hi to some people (because I know them). The grass already is becoming green, and the flowers are starting to bloom. On the way back, I start thinking about lunch and my stomach growls. The weather is really nice, and I am glad I took some time outside.

SOL 20/31- Max and Kam's Class

July 15th. My birthday. Driving back from tennis at 8:00 AM, I sit and beg my mom to get a hamster.
"Please can we get a hamster!?" I beg.

"No." My mom replies. "Who would we give it to when we go on vacation?"
I try to think of good ideas but she keeps saying no.

"Where are we going?" I ask as we pass the turn to my house.

"Grandmas."
It was really rainy earlier but now the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the weather is priceless.

When I get to my Grandma's, I see my piano teacher and freeze.
"Am I doing a piano lesson?" I think.

Then I see a bag that says 'Sketchers" on it. I look around and also see a balloon attached to a little box although I have no idea what's in it. When I open the small box, I see a tiny hamster and squeal with delight.

"Is this for me?" I ask.

"Yep." Everyone says.

I can't stop smiling. I open the sketchers bag and see a box with a picture of a cage on it. I open the box and start setting up the cage. That was the best day, getting a hamster.

SOL 19/31- Max and Kam's Class

I'm sitting in the audience of the theater, with my little neighbor and my mom, waiting for the show to start. I am here to watch Frog and Toad, a musical that we put on. The lights dim followed by darkness. I see two shadows, actors going into their places. The lights slowly come back on, and the music fades. Frog and Toad start with their first lines and I know this musical will be great. Laughter and joy fill the air and before I know it, it's intermission. I play some tag outside with the other kids and then I run back inside to watch the rest of the show. When it ends we congratulate everyone and walk outside to the car, smiles on our faces. That was one of the best musicals yet, and I can't wait to see more (unless I'm in them).

Book blog (SOL) 18/31- Max and Kam's Class

Sparrow Road by Sheila O' Connor

This book is about a 12 year old girl named Raine, who moves into a strange place called Sparrow Road. The rules in Sparrow Road and pretty much impossible to follow for Raine and her mom. For example, no talking until supper but you can on Sundays. The place is peaceful, but sometimes too peaceful. Raine must figure out the mysteries of the town with her new friend, Josie. This is a really interesting book, and a mystery. I recommend this book to people who like adventures, and mysteries.

SOL 18/31- Max and Kam's Class

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day and I have a few things I noticed.

There are a lot of things that are green although they weren't meant for St. Patrick's Day. People unintentionally have the color green all over, on houses, schools, in rooms, anywhere. I really like the color green, so I really like St. Patrick's Day. But green is a popular color, so a lot of things are green but like I said before, not for St. Patrick's Day. And then on that day you look around and see so much green but you think, 'Was all this always there or just for today?'

There are also many myths. For example, if you do something bad the leprechaun will come and mess up your room. But is the leprechaun gonna do that or someone/thing else?

I just was thinking about this, and I decided to write about it.

SOL 17/31- Max and Kam's Class

Tic Toc. Tic Toc. I hear clock tic, ruining the silence. I am sitting at my kitchen table, doing my math homework (:/). When I finish, I run upstairs and onto my iPad. I watch some videos and then read. It is snowing outside, and the sky is grey and sad. It is already 2, (on a Sunday) and my stomach is growling. I come back downstairs and have some lunch and watch TV. This was fun, because I just relaxed (after I did math; I mean who would have fun doing math? Not me.).

SOL 16/31- Max and Kam's Class

I run into the school building after recess, and head over to my math class. I walk into the room, panting, and right away get a perplexed look on my face. There are only two tables out, and they are on either sides of the room. Greg calls out names, and points to what table we sit at. I'm with 5 other people, who are also confused. Greg gets out two pies, and puts a pie on each table.

"You have to fill out a worksheet with your group, and then we can eat pie." Greg explains.

After filling out the worksheet, I eat a delicious slice of apple pie and smile. This was really fun, even if we had to do math.

SOL 15/31- Max and Kam's Class

"Next group!" One of my science teachers, Eric, calls.
My group raises their hands to next. We are next to the wetlands, shooting water balloons and eggs out of sling shots. I grab our slingshot and we set it up and launch the water balloon. It started flying and then it popped. It just popped. A bit of rain is trickling down as if it  is spitting at us. Then it starts to snow. A lot. When we shoot all of the eggs and water balloons, we pick up the eggshells and scraps from the water balloons. We run back inside and talk a little with our groups. Time passes so quickly, because it is already time to move on to my next class.

SOL 14/31- Max and Kam's Class

I sit at the fire, and I am watching a movie on my iPad. I am relaxing on my bean bag, watching Frozen. Again. I look over at the crackling fire, and my dog jumps into my lap and I pet him. It's warm, sitting by the fire, when your heater is broken. I'm at my house, alone, relaxing and just chillin (literally). I finish Frozen, and eat some snacks. My dog follows me, and stands on his hind legs.

"No." I say.

Then I feel bad and give him a treat. Then I take my snack back to the fire and eat. I watch some videos and have fun. It was fun, because I got to relax.

SOL 13/31- Max and Kam's Class

Two more weeks until spring break. Two more weeks until no school. Two more weeks until I'm free of homework. Two more weeks until I get a break.

Three more weeks until I leave for Arizona (from the 2nd of April to the 6th). Three more weeks until I go to paradise. Three more weeks until I get to relax.

All this comes to my head as I lay in my bed. I will get to relax. I will get to have fun with no homework.

'Two more weeks until spring break.' I repeat.

SOL 12/31- Max and Kam's Class

I wake up pretty late, 10:00 AM and go take a shower. I get dressed, put my contacts in and go downstairs to breakfast. I have Panera, a breakfast and lunch place that is really good; and walk outside with my dog.

When I walk back inside, my dad is at home opening a box with a telescope. He just got it today, and he is just setting it up. At around 2 I go eat lunch and then go on a walk with my dog, mom, and dad. We have a park nearby, and its really great weather; the sun shining, birds chirping, and the sky is blue and cloudless. I ride on my scooter (cause I'm lazy to walk today) and when I get to the park I run around with my dog. It is already 4:15, and I ride back home and get ready to go to a party later tonight. I put a dress on, and ride to the party. It was a fun day, and I hope I can have the same schedule again.

Book Blog (SOL) 11/31-Max and Kam's Class

Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes-Courter

This is a memoir, so non-fiction. It is REALLY sad, because I usually don't cry about books but this one is REALLY SAD!! It is about the author, Ashley, who has been separated from her mom at three, and so she lives in a lot of foster homes. She jumps in and out of many foster homes, and this book is about her growing up in many foster homes. It is very hard for her, and she never gets to decide anything herself. When Ashley bounces into a very abusive foster home, she ends up finding ways to get out of it. She finally gets out, and all she wants is to get adopted. But will she? Like I said earlier, this book in a memoir, and really makes you cry. This has some adult content, but not that bad. I really recommend this book for anyone, so you all should read it.

SOL 10/31- Max and Kam's Class

I wake from a good night's sleep, snuggled up in my bed, not wanting to get out. The cold air from outside the covers makes me frown cause it's so warm in my bed and I have to get out. I turn on the faucet to wash my hands, and wait for the warm water. I probably stand like that for five minutes, until I realize of water and house heater thing broke last night. I sigh and wash my hands in the icy cold water. I get dressed, eat breakfast, and walk outside.
"It's so WARM!!!!" I think.
I have some fun outside and then I go back inside. I had a fun time, but still, our heater is broken.

SOL 9/31- Max and Kam's Class

I'm sitting on the bus with Julia and we're just talking and eating and relaxing. Finally we get here and I just don't want to get out of the bus. Last time I went snowshoeing it wasn't the best. But I finally get out of the bus and I feel the cold chill of the outside. The wind is blowing and the snow is blowing along with the wind. It is not that cold because I'm dressed in layers but the minute I put my snowshoes on and start to walk to the trail, I feel the hatred of snowshoeing rising up from me. The sun is hidden above the trees, in the dull, sad clouds. The wind blows harder and harder, swirling the snow around. I am so looking forward to a break! I waddle and talk, and listen to the crunch of the snow. Crunch crunch crunch crunch. I love that sound, and even though I hate snowshoeing, I get to see the beauty of the snow covering the trees and the snow glistening everywhere.

SOL 8/31- Max and Kam's Class

Here I am, sitting in the library, not knowing what to write about. Nothing. To. Write. About. A bunch of ideas pop into my head but I push them away.

"Too weird." I think.

Time passes so slow and still no ideas are coming. I ask Sarah, but all the ideas she gives me I wrote about. We talk a little about other stuff, and giggle. We giggle a lot. Its crazy. I'm in a happy mood, laughing and smiling. Then, Sarah decides to put her hair in pigtails cause we just read a SOL about pigtails and break dancing (Kam). We are having a fun time (in case you are wondering we were also working). That was a fun time, but still I didn't really have anything to write about.

SOL 7/31- Max and Kam's Class

The sun is hiding behind the clouds, the chill of the outside is here, and the sky is a dull gray. But that doesn't change anything for me. I'm at my neighbors house, and we are about to go out for ice cream with their nanny's daughter (she is in her 20s). We are going to a place called Sweet Action, which changes a flavor every day and they are really unique for example, PB and J, Nerds, Vanilla Bean, and many more. What's cool is that the employees make all their flavors, and so they are creative and unique. I get a bunch of Vanilla Bean, in a cone. When I lick it, I smile. It is SO GOOD!!! It may be just Vanilla Bean ice cream (hehe that rhymes) but it's still really good. Out of all of us, I finish last and we leave the parlor. We get back into the car, and since it was a pretty far walk to the car, we are shivering since we just ate ice cream and it's freezing outside (yeah, we're such rebels!).

SOL 6/31- Max and Kam's Class

I run over to the field in school, the sun shining and making me hot. That's Colorado, one day it snows and the next, its sunny and hot and 60 degrees. I'm wearing short sleeves and I'm fanning myself with my hands. I run and play ninja with my friends, and we fool around. I'm the second one out, so I run around and fool around. The grass is still yellow and dry, although its sprouting little green highlights. By the time recess ends, I'm panting and hot and happy. I walk into the school, and its refreshing. I get straight to work, and I will always remember how much fun I had that recess.

SOL 5/31- Max and Kam's Class

I step onto the ice and grab onto the sideline of the ice rink. I finally get a hold of myself and let go. I take a deep breath and push my skate off the ice. I'm at Big Bear, and I'm having the time of my life. I haven't ice skated for a while, but I didn't dare to hold onto the side and I just enjoyed the ice. I imagined it being only me and the ice. 'Me and the ice' - I repeated. I glide around the ice and almost crash into some people. Time passes so quickly, although it seems to be just ten minutes ago I came here. I take a break with my friend and we enjoy some ice tea and a snack. This was so much fun, that I wish every day was like this.

SOL 3/31- Max and Kam's Class

I wake up to the usual sound of my alarm clock, at 6:30. Its so tiring waking up early for my morning Spanish class. I trow on some clothes, half asleep. I put in my contact lenses, brush my teeth and hair, and rinse my face. The sun is shining, trying to fool everybody that its warm outside. But no, it's actually freezing and windy, so the sun doesn't fool me. I check on my hamster, lazily make my bed, and run downstairs to eat. For breakfast I have crepes that my mom made, with berries and nutella and orange juice (not on the crepe ;D).

When I am finished eating I gather all my stuff and hurry my mom into the car. The drive is peaceful, and I try to relax. But the music is to fast and upbeat and good, that I enjoy the song and immediately wake up. We get to school and I start my morning Spanish routine.

SOL 2/31- Max and Kam's Class

Its practically spring and the weather outside, priceless. I know its 'gonna snow' tomorrow but I enjoy the moment. I'm walking in the park with my dog and grandma, and it's actually fun. The birds are chirping and the sun is shining and I can't believe my eyes that the weather is so, perfect. I have to stop by every tree, every bush, all because my dog wanting to 'mark his territory.' My grandma and I are just walking peacefully, talking about life.

A little wind starts to blow and then a little more, but it doesn't scare me. I have a feeling it's gonna be windy tomorrow (thanks to the Denver Post) so I'm enjoying the moment as if there is no tomorrow. There are these moments that are funny, and small, but you still remember them, and this is one of them.

SOL 1/31

Hi, my name is Abby. I really like to dance, play piano, draw, do gymnastics, and hang out with my friends. I have two pets, a dog and a hamster. My favorite colors are green and purple and I also enjoy spending time with my family. This is a SOL is about me and my family spending time together and enjoying birthdays. Lets get on with the slice!

I sit on the carpet of my living room next to my two cousins, and its the older boy's birthday (he is six and his younger brother is four). We are watching a magician, who is really cool and funny. My parents and I hosted a party because it was my cousin and grandpas birthday. Suddenly the magician says,
'And now, for the floating trick!'
At first I don't know what that means, but then the magician calls the birthday boy up (my cousin, not my grandpa) and picks him up. Then, he puts him on a table with two chairs holding it up. My cousin has a blank expression stuck to his face, and I can't tell what he is feeling. One chair is taken away but the other has to stay for safety reasons. There he is, 'floating', with a big smile on his face. My 4 year old cousin and sitting near me, screaming his head off and acting like a lunatic. I can't stop him cause he would keep going on and on and on.

When the trick comes to an end, I have a huge headache from my screaming cousin. But still, I won't forget the moment, because a rarely see my cousins since they live in Boston. They are really sweet, but can cause a headache sometimes.

In a Heartbeat

In a Heartbeat by Loretta Ellsworth

This book is about a 16 year old girl named Eagan, who loves to figure skate. Its practically her life, wake up, eat, skate, go to sleep and on and on. But when she passes away (still at 16), she goes into the afterlife and reflects on memories of her 16 year long life. She also sees her beating heart, in another body.

On the other hand, 14 year old Amelia, has a worn out heart that she struggles with, so she must get a new one but struggles with a new life.

This is a really well written book that expresses emotions but in a really good way. It is a really quick read, and really realistic fiction.

The Lemonade War

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies

This book was my children's classic book. It is about a boy named Evan and his sister, Jessie. It takes place during the summer, so it is really hot because it is right in the middle of a heat wave. Evan is a good big brother, until he becomes very mad at Jessie for various reasons (you have to read the book to find out) but Jessie is happy about the reason. Then, like you might assume, Evan decides to start a lemonade war. They have to make a certain amount of money by Labor Day, and the winner takes all if they get more then the other person. This is a very quick read, I finished it in a day. It is funny, and it  makes you really thirsty for lemonade. It talks a lot about entrepreneurs, which is good for making a lemonade stand.

Slice of Life- Skiing

For the first time in the 2014 winter, I finally went skiing. My dad and I carefully drive out of out mountain house and make our way to Keystone. Its early, and as we drive to Keystone we see the sun low in the sky, rising up. The snow is trickling down, and the roads are busy with cars heading towards the ski areas.

When my dad and I got to Keystone we were in luck because there were only a few parking spots. We got our ski boots on and walked over to the ski lift. We got our passes ready to be scanned, and slipped our skis on. It took about 15-20 minutes to get up to the mountain and the runs.

We finally got to the best part: the runs. We started on a blue one, Mozart and glided down. I rushed across the powdery snow, and sprayed the people behind me (accidentally). We finished our very first run and made it over to the second mountain. For the rest of the day we skied and skied with a lunch break in between. I spent some quality time with my dad, and HAD FUN!!

3 Musketeers

3 Musketeers by Alexander Dumas

In France, 1625, there still are kings and queens. Being a musketeer for the kings and queens is really hard. 3 musketeers, Athos, Aramis and Porthos; are the best of friends. For example, if one of them dies, they all find a way to die. D'Artagnan, becomes a musketeer and has to face the challenges, and try his hardest. This was a really hard book to read, because it was written in the 1800's. In my opinion is wasn't that interesting for the sake of dialogue, because there barely wasn't any. The description is really good, but there are paragraphs and paragraphs of just description. I would recommend this book for people who enjo reading older books, and like adventure and A LOT of dialogue.

3 Musketeers

3 Musketeers by Alexander Dumas

This book actually turned out to be a three week book for me because the writing is really hard.
Warning- Spoiler Alert
D'Artgnan ( the main character who wants to become a musketeer), is actually not the best person. He abducts a mans wife, because D'Artagnan is in love with her. At this point, the 3 musketeers, Athos, Aramis and Porthos, have become good friends with D'Artagnan and let him become a musketeer. The guards mistake Athos for D'Artagnan as the person who abducted the wife and arrest Athos. A lot of things came to my mind when this happened in the book. But who knows, I may be wrong.

This is a funny and adventurous book, but it takes place in the 1600s so it has really complicated phrases and words.

Slice of Life Hamster

I'm lying on my bed doodling with my hamster in my other hand, who is cleaning himself. I put him down and let him run around my bed. I keep and eye on him to make sure he doesn't fall (not that he would) and continue doodling at the same time. I walk over to the window and glance at the sunshine. It almost blinds me so I look away and skip over to my bed. I look around my bed for my hamster. No where to be seen. I look under my pillows. No. Under my bed. Nope. My heart is pounding and I'm afraid everyone could hear it. This is my second month with my hamster and he's gone.

I flip open my covers and catch a glimpse of a grayish black bump. It turns out to be my hamster cleaning himself. Acting all innocent. I feel a wave of relief come through me and I gently pick him up and take him over to his cage. That was close.

3 Musketeers

3 Musketeers by Alexander Dumas
First of all, this is a two week book for me and probably others. This book takes place in France, and back in the old times. It is about a young man named D`Artagnan who wants to become a musketeer, but in order to become that, he must duel with the 3 musketeers who are really good friends. D'Artagnan is very curious, and brave, to want to have such a big responsibility of a musketeer. This is a funny book, and so far its pretty hard to read. The genre is probably adventurous, funny, and a little intense.

Slice of Life- Mexico

The hot sun burns my back when I walk over to the pool. Barcelo Maya Palace Hotel and Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico is like paradise. All you do is relax. I jump into the cold, refreshing pool, and get all wet. My friend is there to, and we are just chilling in the pool and having fun. I swim over to the pool bar, and order a cherry coke. I drink it and get out of the pool to dry up. I stand next to the pool and talk to my friend, who is in it, but suddenly, I feel a push. I lose my balance and fall into the pool. I turn around and see my annoying 11 year old cousin, Simon, laughing at me. I run out of the pool and chase him around (but walking). I get tired of it and give up, so I walk over to the pool again.

I feel a drip of water, then another, then another. I look up and see a bunch of raindrops. In Mexico, when it rains, it pours. Its warm rain, but I get soaked in 30 seconds. I walk over with my friend, Michelle, over to a area that actually has a roof. My parents are at a buffet, eating away, not having any idea its raining, while Michelle and I are trying to be brave enough to run over to the towel area. We finally have the guts to, so we run over, and then covering ourselves, run over to the beach where my parents stuff is, trying to save their stuff before it gets soaked. Too late. All of the stuff is soaked, but we manage to get ahold of it and bring it over to my parents. That was a kind thing to do, and I'm proud of us, because we also had fun while saving their stuff.

-This was over thanksgiving break this school year, and my family, cousins, and friends were there. In Mexico.-

Up a Road Slowly

Up a Road Slowly
By Irene Hunt

This book is about a girl named Julie who would always have fun at Aunt Cordelia's and she would have a amazing time. But when her mother passes away and Julie has to come to Aunt Cordelia's to live with her, she has to experience different emotions and more. This wasn't the best book I read, although it is a quick read. It has good description, and a good book for reading if you don't have anything else to read. Its a little sad, but in all pretty good.

Slice of Life

The snowflakes dance down my boots and socks. The icy feeling is like a spring because it makes me jump up. The sky is gray but the sun is peeking through that dull gray color. I glance down at the snow and its so bright a can't take it. I am in my backyard with my dog. He is in a dog coat that we put on him to keep him warm. When the snow is around a inch, and of course my dog is extra hyper.

I chase him around, with him rolling around and getting all covered in snow. He is like a snow magnet because when he walks outside he is dry, but when he steps onto the grass, he gets covered in snow. The snow on him melts, and turns into water, and getting my dog soaked, which makes him look like a rat. I shiver, yet keep running around with my dog.

I finally stop, and look through one of the windows of my room. I see the faint outline of my hamsters cage and smile, but stop looking when I hear a loud bark from my dog. I get ahold of him and head inside. It felt like a winter wonderland.

The Book Thief

The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak

This book is about a German girl named Liesel Meminger who lives in a foster home and doesn't have the best life. The parents, Rosa and Hans aren't that wealthy and so they hve to trade cigarettes that Hans smokes in order to get books. Speaking of books, the narrator considers Liesel a books thief. Liesel steals books from the mayor's library, and the Nazi fire. But when they hide a Jew in their basement.... thats when everything changes.
This book is full of suspense and questions, and has a lot of action. I really enjoyed it although it would probably be considered a two week book.
